A Gallaudet University, Washington DC graduate and has been involved in the Indian Deaf community for more than 25 years. She has worked in many areas such as Deaf child care, counseling and sign language projects. She has most recently headed up the Sign Language Cell at Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped, Mumbai and has been instrumental in setting up interpreter training in India. Currently she is on sabbatical in Canada. |

A Deaf graduate who has been actively invloved in the training and education of the Deaf in india for a decade. He received his Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of New England, Australia. He was a research member of the sign language typology research group at MPI, the Netherlands and is currently a lecturer in Applied Linguistics on a limited term contract at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston, UK. He is currently working on his Ph D in Linguistics. In addition he is the founder secretary of Deaf Empowerment Foundation (www.def-intl.org) and a board member of the Sign Language Linguistics Society (www.slls.eu) |

Sunil Sahasrabudhe is Deaf and a native signer of Indian Sign Language. He has completed his B.Comm and B.Ed (in special education). He is a qualified and experienced teacher of both ISL and English. He joined ishara in 2006 a Director / Principal, and has been running both the English literacy programmes at Ishara Foundation as well as the intern / practice teacher programme conducted in nine Deaf schools around Mumbai. He has also attended international Deaf workshops in the UK and the Netherlands, and has now started a research MA at University of Central Lancashire in July, which means he will be splitting his time half in Preston, UK and half here in Mumbai. |

Smita Patel is our newest teacher. She is Deaf and has a B.Ed. degree. Before joining Ishara she worked for some time at a Deaf school in Mumbai, teaching young children. Although she was educated orally in the mainstream system, she has quickly adapted herself to the Ishara bilingual environment. For the past 6 months, she is managing our interns in the BELC in Deaf schools programme here in Mumbai, and beginning February 1st, will be heading the new full-time programme in Indore. |

Mona Shah is Deaf and a native signer of Indian Sign Language. She has been working with Ishara since its inception. Before joining Ishara she was an active member of the Indian Sign language Cell at AYJNIHH, Mumbai. She has undergone various courses to teach Indian Sign Language as well as English. She is well versed in Indian Sign Language which helps her teaching English to the Deaf. She is currently studying her Higher Secondary Education from the National Open School. |

Prakash Khairnar is a new generation multimedia technician with skills ranging from video filming to editing and from graphic designing to publishing. He was trained by Arena Multimedia and is also skilled in computer hardware maintenance. He is currently working on multimedia study materials development. |

Shweta has joined Ishara as our part-time book-keeper. Although raised orally, she has married into an all-Deaf family, and has become an active part of the Deaf community. In addition to doing our bookkeeping and helping with accounts, Shweta helps keep the office running smoothly by managing files, etc. |
