Salma Dib (b. 2000) is a Palestinian interdisciplinary artist who lives and works between Dubai and Chicago. Her work explores her experience of growing up as a member of the diaspora and her perspective as an outsider. Through symbolic abstraction, Dib’s work critically examines themes of home, war and life under occupation. As the granddaughter of Palestinian refugees, her art reflects the generational trauma passed down as a result of war.
In 2020, during her studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Dib began exploring urban walls and how marginalized communities respond to them with forms of anonymous self-expression. This has since evolved into an ongoing research-based project that delves into the layered histories of walls in Palestine.
